Susan Calland

Few love animals and volunteering more than Susan Calland. She was honored for her work by being recognized as the 2013 Humane Society Volunteer of the Year. She has spent 20-25 hours a week working every day for the past six years caring for the dogs awaiting adoption. She cares for them, lets them run and even cleans up after them.
She became a volunteer after she lost her horse of 32 years and was grieving. The Humane Society reached out and recruited her and she has been there ever since.
She has three dogs of her own, Kasey, Alice and Bella , all rescue dogs and a cat Max who keeps them in line.
Married to Dave, a Vet, for the past 35 years they have three children and a one grandbaby. Sarah has been blessed to be a stay at home mom.
In her free time she likes to scrapbook, make greeting cards for others and quilt.
She believes “You have one chance to make a first impression.” Her parents impressed her with their hard work ethic, kindness, compassion for others and being an example of the Golden Rule. Both of her parents are in their 80’s and going strong.
She is shown here with Sara, a mixed breed dog, waiting for a forever home.
