With a “dollar and a dream” Jeff Miller opened Millers Meat in 1988.
Having been a meat cutter for 17 years prior, Jeff took a retirement buyout and turned it into a business well known here in Findlay. There was a time after he left meat cutting he was looking for direction and after a prayer he felt a calmness and took it as direction. On the last day of his unemployment he opened the doors of his business. He hired Betty Davis of Ralph’s Market and between the two of them they made a go of it. He paid tithing on his first 100.00 and has been blessed ever since thanks he says, “to God’s grace.”
He has had a rough road in life with learning disabilities and handicaps. He did not learn to read until he was 30 years old. But he has never let that slow him down. He now wears several hats as he runs his business and serves his community. He also works very hard with his employees to teach them strong work ethics so they can succeed in life. He tells them “don’t work hard when you can work smart!” and to learn what you can from each job, using “each job as a stepping stone upwards.”
He is married to Gloria and has three children and two grandsons.
Jeff credits two men with his survival and success, Gene Wolf, a school guidance counselor who spent time with him and helped him and Gene Clark ,who was a pastor who took time to overlook his weaknesses and language, to pray with him and spiritually nurture Jeff.
Jeff’s words of wisdom are “Pain is what you walk through, misery is what you choose to sit in.”
