Felipe Hernandez

Numerous nominations brought us to Felipe Hernandez, a jack of all trades at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He works in the Laboratory and has been a long time phlebotomist. These day he has branched out to microbiology, histology and crytology in responsibilities in the lab. He spent10 years drawing blood and is often requested to assist in difficult situations drawing blood or starting IV’s. He learned his original skills at Apollo Career Center and then practiced them at St. Rita’s in Lima prior to coming to BVH.

In 2012 he was recognized for his skills and personality with patients and staff as Employee of the Year at BVH. He loves the “homey” feel of the hospital versus a large facility.

He and Todd, his partner of 17 years, have two dogs Nacho and Marge. They love the social life and are active in food drives, City Mission events and Coats for Christmas. They are owners of several rental properties that keep them busy. They love to have cook-out challenges at their house. They are Buckeye, Brown and Indian fans. In his free time Felipe loves yard work, playing volleyball, soccer and making killer salsa.

Felipe was raised by his grandmother who spoke only Spanish and taught him to “work hard and not be embarrassed of yourself.”

His words of wisdom are “Be yourself.”
