In the sprit of the season we are highlighting groups that are giving back to the community. Today it is Coats for Christmas, a give away of coats that began with City Laundry and Paul Kramer 18 years ago. The idea is to collect new and slightly used coats, clean them if necessary and give them to anyone needing a coat with no restrictions or qualifications. “The community has given us so much it is the least we can do” says Rich Kramer.

They collect an average of 3500 coats a year, distribute 2500-3000 to the community and the balance goes to help the City Mission and other agencies in the city. They had one year they collected 15,000 coats! If you would like to help, the event runs through this Friday, December 4th and coats can be dropped off at the following sites: City Dry Cleaning, 116 E Main Cross, All Findlay City Schools, the Customer Service area at Findlay City Mall and other companies participating. There is a special need for men’s extra large coats and children’s coats.
Coat distribution will take place at Glenwood Middle school, Saturday December 12th from 9 to 3 and on the 13th from 1-3.

The whole program is staffed with community volunteers sorting, sizing and hanging the coats and being there for the distribution. If you would like to volunteer please go to coatsforchristmas.org or contact Christi West at cristiwest11@gmail.com.

Shown in the picture with a portion of the coats collected thus far are Rich Kramer (r) and Roy Mason of City Linen.
