Cheryl Huffman

Cheryl Huffman is very non-traditional when it comes to her career choice. At the age of 39, after a career as a medical technician in hematology and having two daughters, she decided to follow a dream that she had had since she was a young girl. She applied and was accepted into medical school at the Medical College of Ohio, (now UTMC).
Born in Detroit, she attended the University of Michigan earning a degree in microbiology and zoology in 1976. Cheryl found there was not much demand for a woman with those degrees. She returned to BGSU after moving to Findlay and earned a degree as a Medical Technician. She was living a very full life as she married Douglas in 1976 and they moved to Findlay so he could start in his law practice. They became parents to two daughters who kept her busy between work and college.
Being non-traditional in medical school was tough the first two years. Her world changed in the second two years when she began to care for actual patients and her life long goal was achieved. She spent four years in medical school, three more years as a resident in Pediatrics and then was added to the college staff as a faculty member. The workload and distance took its toll and the now Dr. Huffman sought a position closer to home.
She applied to and received a position to the Caughman Clinic. After two years of part-time work her workload increased to fulltime. She loves being a pediatrician and treats her “patients as she would her daughters and granddaughters.” Dr. Huffman was nominated because she “treats her patients and their families as friends”.
She has been married to her “saint” for 40 years. Both daughters followed in their parents footsteps as one is a pediatrician and the other is an attorney. They also have three granddaughters.
In her little free time Cheryl likes to travel to California to see her daughters, scrapbook, cook gourmet food and read murder mystery novels.
