Smoking Joe Bacon

I met our next HOF at my niece’s wedding. He was the DJ and had the place laughing, singing, and dancing on the tables. It was much more fun than I have seen before and all had a blast with Smoking Joe Bacon at the microphone. Joe has been a wedding DJ and radio personality for the past 30 years. He started in Cleveland after graduating from the Ohio School of Broadcasting in 1985.

Life back then meant carrying crates of vinyl records to each event. Then they morphed to cassettes, CD’s and now everything can be carried on one laptop computer. He loves weddings and the variety of music and atmospheres the bride and groom want to hear and how he works to bring it to life..

Smoking Joe Bacon, as he is known on the radio, has been a personality on WHMQ, WKXA and now is heard on MIX96 in Fostoria. Radio is not a great paying gig and he has been a jack of all trades filling the gaps, from a black jack dealer to a car salesman.

When not running weddings, (he does 40-45 a year), he runs, works out, hangs with friends, and travels to the islands of Lake Erie to get away. He has two cats names Black jack and Ace.

Dad was his inspiration as he “had a great sense of humor and he and mom have been married for 65 years. I grew up with lots of laughter in my home.”

From that he lives with the underlying goal in life, “You only live once, have fun.”
