Makayla Kuhlman

This young lady, Makayla Kuhlman, turned the tables on us when she interviewed us for the journalism class she is taking at the University of Cincinnati.

She is a native of Findlay born at Blanchard Valley Hospital 18 years ago. She moved away for a few years but came back to graduate from Findlay High school. It was a creative writing class at FHS that piqued her love for literature. She credits the great teachers and staff in the English department at the high school for helping her find her direction.

Makayla loves stories that are written down as they are “there forever.” She enjoys riding the bus to school and back as she can meet strangers, talk with them and hear their stories. She keeps a journal as she learns something from each person she meets. She feels moved to document their stories. She looks forward to a career in documentary journalism where she “won’t get rich but I will enjoy it.”

She is a Cincinnati Reds fan and so was drawn to the beautiful campus of the University. She is adjusting to being alone in a big city but misses her family and all the support. She comes home to visit her dad as often as possible. She enjoys Findlay because compared to Cincinnati it is calm, she can relax “and I don’t have to carry pepper spray!” She also get to see her dog Carmella, drive her car and hang out at George House where “books and coffee meet.”

Makayla enjoys the outdoors, kayaking and bluegill fishing, She has fun playing pool where she has mastered “scratching the eight ball!”, and reading.

Her mom Dusty “is an amazing support to me no matter what. She tells me to go after my dreams.”

She draws upon Ghandi for her inspiration. Her favorite quote is “My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.”

Follow your dreams young lady!!
