Dr. Bill Kose

Our spotlight today falls upon a beloved local doctor, Internist Bill Kose. A graduate of THE Ohio State, Dr. Kose was one of 10 doctors recruited to come up to then a fairly rural area and establish a medical practice here in Findlay. He was the pioneer of the group and set up his office in the condos to the rear of the hospital. The other doctors formed a core and allowed a referral system to be set up locally instead of referring to bigger cites for specialties.
Dr. Kose is loved by his patients and coworkers. He has a very quiet sweet demeanor and comes across as the old country doctor of Norman Rockwell fame. He is also recognized for his expertise as he is the Chief Medical Officer for the entire Blanchard Valley System. He is responsible for recruiting new medical personnel and improving the quality of care throughout the nursing homes, hospital and practices under the BVHS umbrella.

The biggest advancement in his career have been the coming of the imaging capabilities that CAT scans and MRI’s bring which allowed for diagnosis without surgery. Also he notes advances made that reduce hospital stays from weeks to days while recovering form ailments and surgeries.

He has been married for 47 years to Kay and they have four children and three grandchildren. They travel every six weeks or so to see the families and stay close. In his rare quiet times he likes to read.

His advice to younger people is “To have a purpose.”

His role model was his dad who served in the army during WWII, earned an accounting degree and supported his family as a treasurer of a company for many years. He is still active at 94. Dr. Kose’s family doctor was also an influence as he pushed him to attend medical school.
