Jim Atchison
Jim Atchison was the second firefighter promoted to captain yesterday. He has been with the department since 1997 when station 4 opened. He attended the state fire academy prior to being hired.
He is a native Findlayite.
Jim is a double veteran of the armed services. He served in the US Navy for 4 years in the intelligence branch for the Navy Seals and left as a Petty Officer 2nd class. Recently he was sworn in to the Air National Guard in the 180th Fighter wing as a firefighter.
He married in 2001 and has one daughter and one son.
He loves to hunt, fish, anything outdoors. As many may know firefighters don’t just rest on their days off. They have second jobs. Jim is a substitute bus driver, drives an ambulance and a cement truck as needed. He loves to keep busy.
His dad who is also a native Findlayite was his role model, working at Ball metal for 30+ years and teaching Jim a hardworking ethic.
