After nearly a 40 year absence the middle schools of Glenwood, Donnell and St. Michaels are holding a city wide science fair thanks to Science teacher Mike Wilson and his counterparts.
65 plus students participated in what is hoped to be an annual event brought about in a large part due to a donation from Marathon to improve the science labs in city schools. The science teachers want to teach the students, to explore, think, reason, test theories, and learn to present themselves to others.
Mike is a veteran teacher with 17 years spent in the Findlay City Schools system, starting with teaching 3rd grade Science. He earned his teaching degree at Western Oregon State College and after teaching in Idaho he and his wife, Dr. Nikki Diederich, moved to Findlay so that she could teach at the University of Findlay. Mike and his wife have one daughter in high school.
When not teaching, Mike coaches basketball and cross-country at Donnell and works in his wood shop where he makes pens and bowls on a lathe. He enjoys taking his family camping around the state in their camper.
His role model is his oldest brother Rick who is a police officer in Oregon. “I have watched what he goes through to protect his community.”
Mike thinks Findlay is a “great place to raise kids and his daughter has been blessed living here.”
